  • Manager Torey Luvollo said Friday that Perdomo will begin the season as Arizona’s primary shortstop, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.Top prospect Jordan Lawlar made his MLB debut last season and will soon receive an extended look in the big leagues, but Perdomo’s .712 OPS during the regular season last year and .754 OPS during the playoffs will help him keep the starting gig at shortstop for now. Perdomo totaled six home runs, 47 RBI, 71 runs and 16 steals in 144 contests, and he has a limited fantasy ceiling.
  • Diamondbacks’ Drey Jameson: Not expected until 2025 Rotowire  FEB 15, 2024. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Thursday that he does not expect Jameson (elbow) to pitch this season, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Jameson had Tommy John surgery in September, so even if he came back as a reliever it always was unlikely he’d pitch in 2024. The 26-year-old right-hander will focus on rehabbing this year with eyes of contributing for Arizona again in 2025.
  • Diamondbacks’ Kevin Ginkel: Battling elbow soreness Rotowire  FEB 15, 2024 Ginkel is dealing with soreness in his right elbow, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.Manager Torey Lovullo said the issue first appeared about a week ago, but nothing alarming showed up when Ginkel went in for imaging. While the D-backs don’t expect Ginkel’s elbow to become an problem, they will still postpone his ramp-up process as a precaution. The 29-year-old reliever logged a 2.48 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 65.1 innings last season and figures to serve as Paul Sewald’s primary setup man in 2024.
  • Diamondbacks’ Tommy Henry: Competing for rotation Rotowire  Henry and Ryne Nelson are expected to compete for the final spot in the rotation, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.Henry had a decent run at the back end of the rotation during the 2023 season, taking over when Madison Bumgarner was designated for assignment in April before an elbow injury cut short his season. While Henry was healthy by September, he was not added to the postseason roster for any of the playoff rounds. The 26-year-old left-hander recorded a 5-4 record and 4.57 ERA over 136 innings (17 appearances, 16 starts) with 100 strikeouts and 56 walks in 2023.
  • Diamondbacks’ Ryne Nelson: Part of rotation competition Rotowire  Nelson is expected to compete with Tommy Henry for the final spot in the rotation, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. The top three in the rotation are set — Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Eduardo Rodriguez — and it looks like Brandon Pfaadt has the edge for the No. 4 spot, leaving Nelson and Henry to compete for the back end. Nelson spent the first four-and-a-half months of the 2023 season as part of the rotation before an August demotion. He returned to the Diamondbacks in September and made three postseason appearances as a reliever. Nelson recorded an 8-8 record and 5.31 ERA over 144 innings (29 appearances, 27 starts) with 96 strikeouts and 46 walks during the regular season.
