Joc Pederson
Arizona Diamondbacks • #3 • DH
- Pederson isn’t in Arizona’s lineup for Friday’s game against the Giants.Left-hander Blake Snell will toe the slab for San Francisco, so the lefty-hitting Pederson will take a seat Friday. Blaze Alexander will fill in as the Snakes’ designated hitter while Kevin Newman starts at shortstop and bats ninth.
- Diamondbacks’ Jace Peterson: DFA’d by Arizona The Diamondbacks designated Peterson for assignment Friday.Peterson was unable to make the most of his opportunities after shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) was placed on the 10-day IL on April 7. Peterson hasn’t recorded a hit since April 5, and he has reached base just four times over 26 plate appearances this season. In a corresponding move, the Diamondbacks recalled Pavin Smith from Triple-A Reno.
- Diamondbacks’ Pavin Smith: Recalled from Reno The Diamondbacks recalled Smith from Triple-A Reno on Friday.Smith has been at Triple-A since the beginning of the season and has slashed .298/.417/.456 with 14 RBI across 72 plate appearances. His hot bat will earn him a spot on the big-league roster, though it’s unlikely he sees consistent playing time while in the majors. Jace Peterson was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
- Diamondbacks’ Ryne Nelson: Lands on 15-day IL The Diamondbacks placed Nelson (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Friday.Nelson left Thursday’s game against the Rockies after he took a comebacker to his arm in the second inning. Nelson will be replaced on the active roster by left-hander Jordan Montgomery, who will make his season debut Friday against the Giants. Nelson has started in four games this season, posting a 4.60 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 13:5 K:BB over 15.2 innings.
- Diamondbacks’ Jordan Montgomery: Recalled for season debut The Diamondbacks recalled Montgomery from Triple-A Reno on Friday.Montgomery made two tune-up starts in Triple-A, surrendering nine earned runs across 7.2 innings while striking out nine batters and walking five. While his minor-league numbers aren’t exactly encouraging, the 31-year-old southpaw is still expected to be a quality contributor to Arizona’s starting rotation after posting a 3.20 ERA across 188.2 innings between St. Louis and Texas last year. Ryne Nelson (elbow) was placed on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move.
