Suns notes

  • Suns’ Kevin Durant: Won’t face Milwaukee on Tuesday

Durant (ankle) will not travel with the team for Tuesday’s game against the Bucks, Shane Young of Forbes.com reports.

Durant suffered a left ankle sprain during Sunday’s loss to the Rockets, and head coach Mike Budenholzer suggested he will not travel with the team for Tuesday’s contest. Durant will undergo an MRI on his ankle Monday to determine the severity of the injury. Royce O’Neale and Oso Ighodaro figure to see increased minutes with Durant sidelined.

  • Suns’ Kevin Durant: Won’t return Sunday

Durant will not return to Sunday’s game against the Rockets due to a left ankle injury, Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports reports.

Durant appeared to step on Jabari Smith’s foot while driving to the rim, causing his ankle to turn. Since Durant was unable to shoot the free throws, he cannot return to Sunday’s contest. He concludes the game with 11 points (5-11 FG, 1-3 3Pt), seven rebounds, one assist and a block in 22 minutes. Considering the nature of the injury, it wouldn’t be surprising for Durant to miss some time, leaving minutes for role players such as Royce O’Neale and Oso Ighodaro.

  • Suns’ Bradley Beal: Progressing to 5-on-5 drills

Head coach Mike Budenholzer said Sunday that Beal (hamstring) has progressed to 5-on-5 work, though there still isn’t a clear timetable for his return to game action, Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic reports.

Beal is slated to miss his seventh consecutive contest on Sunday against the Rockets due to a strained left hamstring. However, the veteran guard’s progression to 5-on-5 work bodes well for his eventual return this season, and his next chance to play will come Tuesday against Milwaukee. Collin Gillespie will likely continue to receive an uptick in playing time due to Beal being sidelined.
