Brown was originally scheduled to start Saturday, but the Cubs will now turn to Matthew Boyd. The team acquired Michael Soroka on Wednesday, which likely marks the end of Brown’s stay in the rotation for the time being. It’s unclear if he’ll stick on the roster as a reliever or if he will be optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Cubs’ Ryan Pressly: Booted from roster
Pressly was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Thursday.
Pressly had a tough tenure with the Cubs, which appears to have concluded when he served up a grand slam Tuesday. Overall, he has a 4.35 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across 41.1 innings and could be headed for free agency if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

Amaya has been sidelined since May 25 with an oblique issue but has been on a rehab assignment since July 21. This move shouldn’t affect his timeline to return significantly, but it does open a short-term spot on the 40-man roster for Willi Castro.

Cubs’ Taylor Rogers: Traded again within NL Central
The Pirates traded Rogers to the Cubs for Ivan Brethowr on Thursday, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports.
Rogers’s stay with the Pirates did not last long after being traded from the Reds to Pittsburgh Wednesday. As expected, the reliever was acquired by the Pirates to be flipped, which landed the Pirates an outfield prospect.
