Diamondbacks’ Anthony DeSclafani: Poor showing in start
DeSclafani (1-2) allowed four runs on five hits and three walks while failing to record a strikeout over 2.1 innings, taking the loss Friday versus the Athletics.
DeSclafani threw 59 pitches (33 strikes) in this outing, one off his season high from July 6 versus the Royals. It was a poor start for the veteran right-hander, as he allowed all four runs in the first inning. DeSclafani is still relatively stretched out after serving as a multi-inning reliever a majority of the time since he signed with Arizona on June 15. He’s struggled to a 4.91 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB through 25.2 innings across nine appearances (two starts). It’s unclear if he’ll be the rest-of-season answer in the rotation following the Diamondbacks‘ deal that sent Merrill Kelly to the Rangers on Thursday. DeSclafani is tentatively scheduled to make his next start at home versus the Padres.

Diamondbacks’ Anthony DeSclafani: Starting Friday against Athletics
DeSclafani will start Friday’s game against the Athletics, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
DeSclafani has pitched well for Arizona since signing with the team in mid-June, posting a 3.86 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 24:6 K:BB in 23.1 innings, and he will be rewarded with his second start of the campaign in Friday’s series opener. He could end up sticking in the rotation after the Diamondbacks traded Merrill Kelly to Texas on Thursday. DeSclafani has a long injury history, most recently battling a flexor tendon injury that cost him all of 2024.

Diamondbacks’ Tristin English: Demoted to Triple-A
The Diamondbacks optioned English to Triple-A Reno on Friday.
The 28-year-old received a brief look as Arizona’s starting first baseman after Josh Naylor was traded, but Tyler Locklear will now take over the job after being acquired Thursday in the Eugenio Suarez deal. English has gone 2-for-22 with a double and an RBI in seven MLB games this season.

Diamondbacks’ Brandyn Garcia: Returns to Triple-A
The Diamondbacks optioned Garcia to Triple-A Reno on Friday.
The left-hander was called up by Arizona in late June after being acquired from Seattle in the Josh Naylor trade, and Garcia will head to Reno after giving up three runs over 1.1 frames in two appearances with the Diamondbacks. Garcia could receive another look in the big leagues down the stretch but will return to Triple-A for now.

Diamondbacks’ Connor Kaiser: Joins big-league roster
The Diamondbacks selected Kaiser‘s contract from Triple-A Reno on Friday.
Kaiser joined Arizona on a minor-league contract in November and will receive his first look in the majors since 2023. The 28-year-old had a .236/.346/.423 slash line with six homers and two steals in 65 games for Reno this season and should serve as a utility infielder for the Diamondbacks.

Diamondbacks’ Kyle Nelson: Contract selected
The Diamondbacks selected Nelson‘s contract from Triple-A Reno on Friday.
The left-hander was designated for assignment in early July but will receive another look in the majors coming off Thursday’s trade deadline. Nelson has made 11 appearances for Arizona this season and has a 4.22 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB across 10.2 innings.

Diamondbacks’ Jalen Beeks: Returns from injured list
The Diamondbacks reinstated Beeks (back) from the 15-day injured list Friday.
The left-hander landed on the shelf July 11 due to back inflammation but is ready to rejoin the Diamondbacks after one rehab outing with Triple-A Reno. Beeks has a 4.39 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 39:15 K:BB across 41 innings this season and should fill a high-leverage role for Arizona.
