Dbacks recap and notes

  • Diamondbacks’ Gabriel Moreno: Looks on track for Opening Day

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo expressed confidence Monday that Moreno (forearm) will be available for the Diamondbacks‘ March 26 season opener versus the Dodgers, Jose M. Romero of The Arizona Republic reports.

Moreno received good news over the weekend, when an MRI administered on his aching right forearm revealed inflammation but no structural damage. Though the injury isn’t expected to affect Moreno at the plate, Lovullo said that the catcher will be barred from throwing this week while he waits for the inflammation to subside. Assuming he’s cleared to make a start behind the dish in one of the Diamondbacks’ exhibitions versus the Guardians early next week, Moreno should be ready to catch for Opening Day starter Zac Gallen on March 26.

  • Diamondbacks’ Luis Urias: Lands MiLB deal with Arizona

The Diamondbacks signed Urias to a minor-league contract Monday.

The 28-year-old infielder appeared in 96 games for the Athletics last season and slashed .230/.315/.338 with eight home runs, 25 RBI, 27 runs scored, two stolen bases and a 31:45 BB:K across 330 trips to the plate. He was released in August and then latched on with the Brewers before spending the remainder of the 2025 season at Triple-A Nashville. Given his late signing, Urias won’t be a candidate to join Arizona’s Opening Day roster, but he could eventually get a look with the big club as a utility infielder.

  • Diamondbacks’ Thomas Hatch: Falls short in roster bid

The Diamondbacks reassigned Hatch to minor-league camp Thursday, Alex D’Agostino of SI.com reports.

Hatch joined Arizona on a minor-league deal in January after he spent the 2025 season in the Royals and Twins organizations, logging a 5.82 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 22:17 K:BB over 34 big-league innings between the two stops. After the right-hander was unable to win a spot on Arizona’s Opening Day roster, he’ll likely serve as a swingman at Triple-A Reno to begin the 2026 campaign.

  • Diamondbacks’ Bryce Jarvis: Dropped from big-league camp

The Diamondbacks reassigned Jarvis to minor-league camp Thursday, Alex D’Agostino of SI.com reports.

Jarvis made 12 appearances at the big-league level for Arizona in 2025, submitting a 5.73 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB in 22 innings. He was outrighted off the 40-man roster in December and now appears set to open the season at Triple-A Reno after he was unable to break camp with a spot in the Diamondbacks bullpen.

  • Diamondbacks’ Shawn Dubin: Cut from big-league camp

The Diamondbacks reassigned Dubin to minor-league camp Thursday, Alex D’Agostino of SI.com reports.

Dubin had been attending camp as a non-roster invitee and was unable to secure a spot in Arizona’s Opening Day bullpen after giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks over five innings in Cactus League play. The 30-year-old righty spent the 2025 season in the Astros and Orioles organizations, making 30 appearances in the majors while pitching to a 5.08 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 28:11 K:BB across 33.2 frames
