Suns Recap and Notes

  • Suns’ Jalen Green: Strong first half vs. Boston

Green logged 21 points (8-20 FG, 1-7 3Pt, 4-4 FT), seven rebounds and one assist over 33 minutes during the Suns‘ 120-112 loss to the Celtics on Monday.

Green helped the Suns keep pace with 15 points in the first half (including 10 in the second quarter), though he connected on just two of his nine field-goal attempts in the final two frames. Despite his struggles from beyond the arc Monday, Green eclipsed the 20-point mark for a sixth consecutive game. Over that six-game stretch, he has averaged 27.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 3.7 threes and 1.0 steals over 32.7 minutes per game.

  • Suns’ Devin Booker: Scoring outburst not enough

Booker recorded 40 points (15-24 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 8-9 FT), six assists, three rebounds and one block over 37 minutes during the Suns‘ 120-112 loss to the Celtics on Monday.

Booker carried the Suns’ offensively during Monday’s loss, with 29 of his team-high 40 points occurring over the second and third quarters, though he scored just five points in the fourth as the Celtics’ defense shifted their focus to the superstar guard. Booker has scored 37 or more points in five of 10 appearances in Boston, including his 70-point explosion during the 2017-18 season. He has tallied at least 30 points in five of his last six outings, and over that span he has averaged 33.8 points, 5.3 assists, 4.2 rebounds, 3.0 threes and 0.7 steals over 35.0 minutes per game.

  • Suns’ Ryan Dunn: Drops out of rotation

Dunn (coach’s decision) went unused off the bench in Friday’s 122-115 loss to the Raptors.

Dunn had been seeing his playing time trend down recently, but Friday marked the first time all season that the second-year forward failed to see any action for non-injury reasons. Though he’s regarded as a versatile defender, Dunn’s perimeter shooting hasn’t developed as the Suns had hoped, as he’s converting on just 32.6 percent of his three-point attempts on the season. Now that the Suns are at full strength on the wing and at forward sans Dillon Brooks (hand), Dunn looks like he could find himself outside of the rotation more often than not while head coach Jordan Ott prioritizes Grayson Allen, Haywood Highsmith and Rasheer Fleming in the second unit.
