AZ Cardinals News and recap

  • Cardinals’ Joey Blount: Participating in training camp

Blount (neck/concussion) was an active participant in Tuesday’s training camp practice, per Ross D. Franklin of the Associated Press.

Blount suffered a season-ending neck injury during the Cardinals‘ Week 1 game against the Saints in 2025, but he has recovered from the injury and is battling for a roster spot in training camp. If Blount does make the 53-man roster, then he’ll likely be limited to work on special teams while providing depth in the secondary.

  • Cardinals’ Mack Wilson: Participating in training camp

Mack Wilson is participating in the Cardinals‘ training camp, Jess Root of cardswire.com reports.

Wilson seems to have recovered from his rib injury and is all set to take the field. The middle linebacker has already resumed his duties as the starter for the Cardinals’ defense. The 28-year-old veteran player has been playing alongside both Cody Simon and Jack Gibbens as the two battle for reps at linebacker.

  • Cardinals’ James Conner: Not doing full-team drills

Conner (foot) isn’t yet doing full-team drills at training camp, Darren Urban of azcardinals.com reports.

Coming back from season-ending foot surgery, Conner didn’t do much during the offseason program but took part in the opening practices of training camp. Now that 11-on-11 drills are starting up, Conner has been forced to watch from the sideline while Tyler Allgeier and Jeremiyah Love take first-team reps. There will be concern for Conner’s Week 1 availability if he doesn’t begin full-team work within the next week or two.

  • Cardinals’ Tyler Allgeier: First RB up

Allgeier has been the first running back up with Arizona’s first-string offense during the early stages of training camp, Darren Urban of the Cardinals‘ official site reports.

Allgeier, who inked a two-year, $12.25 million contract with Arizona this offseason, could have an early angle at the lead backfield role with veteran James Conner still not handling 11-on-11 work, though Urban notes that rookie No. 3 overall pick Jeremiyah Love got his share of reps with the first-team offense. While Love projects as the clear eventual leader of the Cardinals’ backfield, Allgeier has seniority backing him for the time being and is no slouch, having averaged 4.3 yards per carry across his career. Trey Benson is also healthy and competing for a chance to factor into Arizona’s backfield.

  • Cardinals’ Jeremiyah Love: Mixing in behind Allgeier

Tyler Allgeier is getting most of the first-team backfield reps at the start of training camp, with Love also mixing in for some snaps with the starters, Darren Urban of azcardinals.com reports.

James Conner, meanwhile, isn’t yet participating in 11-on-11s after making his way back from season-ending foot surgery last year. It’s no huge surprise to see Allgeier taking most of the first-team reps during the opening days of training camp, as teams often defer to seniority even when they have an elite prospect like Love who projects for a major role come September. This simply serves as a reminder that Love has competition for carries — especially power work between the tackles.
