Cardinals’ Tyler Allgeier: Love’s injury opens up opportunity
Allgeier could open the regular season as the Cardinals‘ primary running back, as Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Jeremiyah Love sustained a high-ankle sprain in Thursday’s preseason win over the Raiders.
The Cardinals are hoping that Love will recover in time to suit up for the regular-season opener against the Chargers on Sept. 13, but the rookie third overall pick almost certainly won’t play again during the preseason and could miss regular-season action as well since he faces a multi-week recovery timeline with less than a month to go until the season. If Love is sidelined or limited to begin the regular season, Allgeier would be in line to get the majority of backfield opportunities for the Cardinals, though James Conner (foot) or Trey Benson (knee) could also enter the mix if they recover from their respective injuries.

Cardinals’ Jeremiyah Love: Dealing with high-ankle sprain
Love reportedly sustained a high-ankle sprain in Thursday’s preseason win over the Raiders, and he is unlikely to play again during the preseason, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reports.
The Cardinals remain hopeful that the rookie third overall pick will be back in time for the regular-season opener against the Chargers on Sept. 13, but high-ankle sprains typically take a few weeks to recover from and have longer recovery timelines than the low-ankle variety. Love joins James Conner (foot) and Trey Benson (knee) on the list of banged-up Cardinals running backs, and offseason signing Tyler Allgeier would likely see a bump in workload if Love is sidelined or limited to begin the regular season.

Cardinals’ Carson Beck: Day-to-day with rib injury
Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur said Sunday that Beck is day-to-day with his rib injury, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Beck sustained a rib injury during his standout preseason debut in the Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 6. The rookie returned to practice in a limited fashion during Saturday’s session after he was sidelined during Arizona’s preseason game versus the Raiders on Thursday. LaFleur added Sunday that he still wants the quarterback to “heal a little bit more,” per Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com. Beck will have two more opportunities to return this preseason, starting with the Cardinals’ next exhibition versus the Cowboys on Saturday, Aug. 22.

Cardinals’ Jeremiyah Love: Hopeful for Week 1
The Cardinals are “hopeful” that Love (ankle) will be ready for Week 1, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Arizona head coach Mike LaFleur said Saturday that Love would be sidelined at least one week after he suffered an ankle injury during Arizona’s 27-14 preseason win over the Raiders on Thursday. LaFleur also declined to say whether Love is dealing with a high-ankle sprain while talking to the media Sunday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports. The No. 3 overall pick of this year’s draft tallied 11 carries for 58 yards along with three catches (on three targets) for 14 yards. Fowler added in his report that the team is taking it easy with Love and that he’ll be the team’s lead back once healthy. His next opportunity to return this preseason is Saturday, Aug. 22 versus the Cowboys, though his timeline likely suggests that the he won’t play until at least the preseason finale against Green Bay on Friday, Aug. 28. If Love is unavailable, then Tyler Allgeier would likely be next in line to start, especially since James Conner is still rehabbing from foot and ankle surgeries undergone last September.

Cardinals’ Austin Keys: Moved to IR
The Cardinals placed Keys (undisclosed) on injured reserve Saturday.
Keys likely sustained the injury in Thursday’s preseason win over the Raiders. The linebacker was on the roster bubble, and the move to IR ends his bid to make the team. Keys will now spend the entirety of the 2026 regular season on IR unless he is waived with an injury settlement.
