Cardinals’ Trey Benson: Present for Monday’s workout
Benson (knee) is in attendance for Monday’s practice, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Benson has been in and out of practice since his left knee flared up two weeks ago, missing Thursday’s preseason game at Las Vegas in the process. With rookie first-round pick Jeremiyah Love being diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain this weekend, Benson has a chance to stake a claim on the RB depth chart behind offseason addition Tyler Allgeier for as long as Love is sidelined. Moreover, fellow back James Conner continues to sit out 11-on-11 drills due to a foot injury, meaning Benson currently is the highest profile player at the position that can make a leap, assuming he doesn’t suffer additional setbacks with his own health concern.

Cardinals’ Tyler Allgeier: Love’s injury opens up opportunity
Allgeier could open the regular season as the Cardinals‘ primary running back, as Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Jeremiyah Love sustained a high-ankle sprain in Thursday’s preseason win over the Raiders.
The Cardinals are hoping that Love will recover in time to suit up for the regular-season opener against the Chargers on Sunday, Sept. 13, but the rookie third overall pick almost certainly won’t play again during the preseason and could miss regular-season action as well since he faces a multi-week recovery timeline with less than a month to go until the season. If Love is sidelined or limited to begin the regular season, Allgeier would be in line to get the majority of backfield opportunities for the Cardinals, though James Conner (foot) or Trey Benson (knee) also could enter the mix if they recover from their respective injuries.
