Diamondbacks’ Lourdes Gurriel: Makes first rehab appearance
Gurriel (adductor) started in left field and went 0-for-4 with a walk and three strikeouts for Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.
Gurriel began a rehab assignment with the Aces and played eight innings in the field. The outfielder is in the midst of his third IL stint this season. He missed the start of the year while rehabbing from a torn ACL and then suffered a left hamstring injury in May before the adductor hit him in July. The Diamondbacks have a crowded outfield, and there is a question of how exactly Gurriel will fit in once he’s ready.

Diamondbacks’ Justin Martinez: Makes season debut
Martinez allowed one walk over a scoreless and hitless inning in Tuesday’s 9-4 loss to Boston. He also hit a batter and uncorked a wild pitch.
Martinez made his first appearance since being reinstated from the 60-day injured list Monday. It had been 435 days since he last pitched in the majors, as Martinez spent that time recovering from a second Tommy John elbow surgery. The right-handed reliever came on to pitch the eighth inning in a low-leverage situation, but the one-time Arizona closer could regain the ninth-inning role over the final stretch of the season.

Diamondbacks’ Merrill Kelly: Struggles again in loss
Kelly (8-11) took the loss against the Red Sox on Tuesday, allowing six runs on seven hits and four walks with two strikeouts over four innings.
Kelly allowed only four hard-hit balls but had consistent traffic on the basepaths, yielding runs in three separate innings. The 37-year-old has now surrendered six earned runs in each of his past two starts, and he’s 0-3 with an 8.24 ERA in four August outings overall. He’ll carry a 5.37 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 84:57 K:BB across 129 innings this season into a home matchup with the Cubs next week.

Diamondbacks’ Gabriel Moreno: Hits grand slam in loss
Moreno went 1-for-3 with a grand slam and a walk in Tuesday’s 9-4 loss to the Red Sox.
Moreno gave Arizona an early lead with a grand slam off Ranger Suarez in the third inning. The 26-year-old has now hit safely in 12 straight games, tallying five multi-hit efforts with a whopping 10 extra-base hits and 11 RBI over that span. On the season, he’s slashing .308/.385/.470 with 10 homers, 60 RBI, 54 runs scored and four steals across 408 plate appearances.
