AZ Cardinals recap and news

  • Cardinals’ Josh Sweat: No trade intentions

The Cardinals do not intend to trade Sweat, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.

Rumors about Sweat’s potential departure from the team were swiftly shut down by general manager Monti Ossenfort on Monday. Between the star defensive end’s minor knee injury and the Cardinals’ projected standing in the NFC West for 2026, many thought Sweat would be a prime trade candidate as the team tries to recoup some capital and build for a future window. It seems to have been determined that Sweat fits the team’s ideal contention window and will remain with the franchise as they move into the rebuild.

  • Cardinals’ Shawn Bowman: Signs with Arizona

The Cardinals signed Bowman to a contract Sunday, Zach Gershman of the team’s official site reports.

Bowman’s roster spot opened up after fellow tight end Kenny Yeboah (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve. Bowman is a third-year undrafted free agent out of Rutgers who has yet to participate in an NFL game. Yeboah’s season-ending issue, as well as the absence of Tip Reiman (ankle), likely prompted the Cardinals’ front offense to address the preseason depth at tight end.

  • Cardinals’ Joey Blount: Lands on IR

The Cardinals placed Blount (neck) on injured reserve Saturday.

It’s a tough blow for Blount, who injured his neck in Week 1 of last season and ended the year on IR. According to Howard Balzer of USA Today, Blount recently reinjured his neck during training camp, prompting this placement on injured reserve. He’ll need to sit out the entire 2026 campaign unless he reaches an injury settlement with Arizona at some point.

  • Cardinals’ Valentin Senn: Sees playing time in HOF Game

Senn (undisclosed) played 26 snaps on offense during the Cardinals‘ 33-30 loss to the Panthers in Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game.

Senn missed the entire 2025 season after being placed on injured reserve due to an undisclosed injury. He’s back with the Cardinals for training camp and is competing for a spot on the team’s 53-man roster for the 2026 campaign.

  • Cardinals’ Kenny Yeboah: Lands on IR

The Cardinals placed Yeboah (hamstring) on injured reserve Saturday.

Yeboah injured his hamstring during the Cardinals’ 33-30 loss to the Panthers in Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game. The injury is severe enough for Yeboah to go on IR, which means he won’t be eligible to play in 2026 unless an injury settlement is reached with Arizona. Yeboah has not seen NFL regular-season action since 2024 with the Jets and was battling for a depth spot on the Cardinals’ 53-man roster prior to his season-ending injury.
