AZ Cardinals recap and news

  • Cardinals’ Josh Minkins: Reverts to IR

Minkins (undisclosed) reverted to the Cardinals‘ injured reserve Monday, per the NFL’s transaction log.

Minkins was not claimed off waivers by another team after being waived with an injury designation Sunday. By reverting to IR, the Cincinnati product will be required to miss the entire 2026 season unless he reaches an injury settlement with the Cardinals. Minkins recorded two tackles (one solo) during the Cardinals’ 42-38 loss to the Packers in Friday’s preseason finale.

  • Cardinals’ Zach Carter: Lands on IR with designation to return

The Cardinals placed Carter (knee) on injured reserve Sunday with a designation to return, Darren Urban of the team’s official site reports.

Carter will be forced to miss at least the first four games of the regular season due to a knee injury he sustained in training camp practice in early August. With rookie fourth-rounder Kaleb Proctor (knee) out for the entire season, Andrew Billings, L.J. Collier and Keveion’ta Spears will serve as the Cardinals’ rotational defensive tackles behind Roy Lopez and Walter Nolen for as long as Carter is sidelined.

  • Cardinals’ Will Johnson: Dealing with lower-body injury

Head coach Mike LaFleur said Monday that Johnson is working through a lower-body injury, Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com reports.

It’s unclear when Johnson picked up the injury, though LaFleur relayed that the second-year pro is “progressing well” in his recovery. It doesn’t seem like Johnson is in real jeopardy of missing the Cardinals‘ Week 1 clash against the Chargers. However, his status for the regular-season opener will be more clear once Arizona releases practice participation reports.

  • Cardinals’ Jeremiyah Love: Trending toward Week 1 return

Love (ankle) is progressing well in his recovery and is trending toward being available for Week 1, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.

Love was forced to miss the Cardinals‘ final preseason game due to the high-ankle sprain he suffered earlier this month, but he continues trend in the right direction. Head coach Mike LaFleur outlined Monday that the running back is “progressing really well,” and that Love is expected to take another step up in his recovery at practice. The Cardinals will take on the Chargers in Week 1 on Sept. 13, and the rookie first-rounder appears to be on track to make his NFL regular-season debut that day.

  • Cardinals’ Carson Beck: Returning to practice Monday

Coach Mike LaFleur said Beck (ribs) will return to practice Monday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.

Beck suffered a ribs injury in the Hall of Fame Game earlier this month and missed the Cardinals‘ three official preseason contests. The third-round rookie is set to open the season as Arizona’s QB3 behind starter Jacoby Brissett and veteran backup Gardner Minshew. There’s a pretty good chance Beck sees action as a rookie during the regular season.
