Yankees’ Cody Bellinger: Leads offense to series win
Bellinger went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and an additional RBI during Wednesday’s win over the Red Sox in Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series.
The 31-year-old outfielder pushed the Yankees‘ lead to 2-0 with an RBI single during the fifth inning, and he then blew the game open in the following frame with a three-run shot off Garrett Whitlock. Bellinger finished the regular season in a 2-for-23 slump, but he’s quickly got back on track in the playoffs to help New York advance to face the Rays in the ALDS.

Yankees’ Max Fried: Secures series win
Fried earned the win in Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Red Sox on Wednesday. He struck out six and allowed one run on three hits and one walk over six innings.
The veteran left-hander was working on a shutout until Willson Contreras launched a two-out, solo homer during the top of the sixth inning, which spelled an end to his day after the Yankees erupted for six runs in the bottom of the frame. It’s the second straight season Fried shut down Boston in the wild-card round, as he fired 6.1 scoreless frames in Game 1 of that series last year. He missed time in 2026 due to elbow issues but still made 20 regular-season starts and had a 2.80 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 104:33 K:BB across 112.2 innings.

Yankees’ Clarke Schmidt: Won’t return in postseason
Manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Schmidt (biceps) will be shut down for the rest of the season, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Schmidt landed on the injured list shortly before the regular season ended due to right bicep neuritis, and rather than trying to get him ready to contribute to the team’s postseason run, the Yankees have decided to focus on getting him fully healthy for 2027. The 30-year-old righty will be entering his final year of arbitration eligibility this winter.
