Kentucky 35, LSU 34 (OT)

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kenny Minchey ran in a two-point conversion in overtime and No. 25 Kentucky beat No. 10 LSU 35-34 on Saturday night at Kroger Field, winning a second straight game by one point on an overtime two-pointer.

LSU got the ball first in the extra period and scored in two plays: Sam Leavitt threw 10 yards to Jackson Harris, then kept it for a 15-yard touchdown run, and Scott Starzyk’s extra point made it 34-27. Kentucky answered in five plays — Minchey found Kenny Darby for 22 yards on third-and-8 to the 1, and C.J. Baxter scored two plays later. After timeouts by both coaches, Will Stein doubled down and sent the offense back out, and Minchey walked in untouched on the quarterback draw for the win.

Minchey passed for 246 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns, including a fourth-and-1 keeper on the final play of the first half that gave Kentucky a 21-17 lead. Baxter rushed for 123 yards and two scores, with a 77-yard burst up the middle on his first carry of the night.

The Wildcats (5-1, 3-1 SEC) never trailed by more than four points in regulation. Brock Coffman returned a punt 55 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter, and Adam Zouagui’s 33-yard field goal with 16 seconds left in regulation sent it to overtime tied at 27.

LSU (4-2, 1-2 SEC) outgained Kentucky 410-401 but turned it over twice. Leavitt was the Tigers’ offense, and Jackson Harris threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Roman Mothershed on a double pass — LSU’s first lead of the second half.

Kentucky won in extra time for the second consecutive week, one week after a thrilling overtime win over South Carolina. Fans stormed the field.
