Arizona State 30, Hawaii 12
TEMPE — The rain finally stopped, and the Sun Devils finally looked like the home team.
After a roughly 40-minute lightning delay at halftime, Arizona State pulled away from Hawaii 30-12 on Saturday night at Mountain America Stadium — the bounce-back the Valley needed after last week’s 55-19 Baylor embarrassment at home.
The story of the night was Cardae Mack. The freshman running back ripped off 154 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, including a 67-yard touchdown burst late in the third quarter that brought the student section back to life. Mack had opened the scoring on a 1-yard wildcat touchdown in the first half.
Reed Harris was the reliable target, catching eight passes for 91 yards and two scores, and Cutter Boley finished 21 of 31 for 189 yards. The defense held Hawaii to 64 rushing yards.
The Sun Devils improved to 3-2, and the test gets real now: No. 11 Texas Tech in Lubbock next Saturday.
