Dbacks recap and news

  • Diamondbacks’ Kevin Ginkel: Cleans mess in win

Ginkel retired both batters faced in the eighth inning of Thursday’s 2-1 win over the Rockies.

Much of the focus after the win was on the sterling performance of starter Eduardo Rodriguez and Corbin Carroll’s walk-off single, but Ginkel made it possible. With one out in the eighth inning, Juan Morillo hit a batter with the bases loaded that tied the game. Enter Ginkel, who induced a pop-out to the catcher and a groundout to third base to limit the damage. It was the reliever’s eighth scoreless outing over his last nine appearances, during which the right-hander has allowed four hits, two walks while striking out nine over 7.1 innings. With Paul Sewald holding down the closer job, there isn’t much opportunity for Ginkel to pick up saves, but his 3.20 ERA in 2026 is making last season (7.36) look like an outlier.

  • Diamondbacks’ Corbin Carroll: Walks off Rockies

Carroll went 1-for-5 with two RBI in Thursday’s 2-1 win over Colorado.

It wasn’t a glitzy, walk-off home run, but Carroll’s two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning accomplished the same goal, giving Arizona its fifth consecutive win. Earlier in the game, he knocked in the team’s first run on a fielder’s choice. The single extended Carroll’s hit streak to nine games, during which he’s gone 12-for-31 (.387) with seven extra-base hits, six RBI and 10 runs scored.

  • Diamondbacks’ Eduardo Rodriguez: Hurls seven scoreless frames

Rodriguez allowed four hits and walked one batter while striking out four over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision against Colorado on Thursday.

Rodriguez took his first loss of the season against Colorado in his previous start, but he shut down the Rockies’ offense in the rematch. The veteran southpaw retired the first nine batters he faced and allowed just one Colorado runner to reach third base. As usual, Rodriguez didn’t miss many bats — he tallied just seven whiffs and four punchouts — but he nonetheless managed his fifth quality start through 10 outings. It’s been a resurgent season for Rodriguez, who posted an ERA above 5.00 in each of his previous two campaigns. So far this season, he’s pitched to a stellar 2.24 ERA despite a modest 43:23 K:BB through 60.1 innings.
